How to find one small step.
When there is too much, a plan can feel like one more thing to carry. One small step is lighter: a single thing you could do today, or decide can wait.
What makes a step small enough
- You can picture yourself doing it.
- It takes minutes, not an afternoon.
- It doesn’t depend on anyone else saying yes.
- If it still feels heavy, it can get smaller: “reply to the email” can become “open the email and read it”.
Some examples
- Choose one thing that can wait until tomorrow, and let it wait.
- Write the first line of the message you’ve been putting off.
- Put the clothes on the chair into one pile.
- Send one person a short message.
Deciding something can wait is a step too
Not every step is a task. Picking one thing that can wait until tomorrow takes weight off today, and it is a real decision. The illustrative conversation on the home page ends exactly there.
If the step doesn’t happen
Then it was too big, or the day was. Make it smaller, or keep it for another day. A step isn’t a promise, and nothing is lost by moving it.
How Struggle helps with this
After you have put things into words, a reply in Struggle can suggest one small step. You take it, change it or leave it. If you want, you can save it to pick up later, and decide whether that saved step can shape future replies. Struggle is on the App Store.
When it’s more than a heavy day
If you’re in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. If something has lasted weeks or gets in the way of daily life, a doctor or a counsellor can help in ways an app can’t. Safety lists where to find human support.
Questions
What if every step feels too big?
Make it smaller until it doesn’t, or choose something that can wait. Sometimes the step is just deciding what not to do today.
Does Struggle give me a to-do list?
No. It can suggest one small step, not a plan, and you decide whether to save it.
