Clear boundaries, reachable help.
Struggle is a supportive AI companion for difficult everyday moments. This page explains what it is, what it is not, and exactly what happens when a conversation touches a crisis.
What Struggle is
Struggle is a private chat companion. Replies are generated by an AI, not written by a person. It helps you slow down and name what is happening, and it offers at most one small next step or one honest question.
What Struggle is not
Struggle is not therapy, diagnosis, medical treatment, clinical risk assessment, or emergency care. It does not replace a doctor, a therapist, a crisis line, or emergency services, and it is instructed never to claim otherwise.
How crisis routing works
- When a message says someone intends to hurt themselves or someone else, or names a method for it, Struggle stops routing that message to the usual AI reply flow.
- Instead it answers with a crisis response written in advance, which names emergency numbers and crisis lines chosen for the device region. The response text follows the app language and asks whether you want to talk about what is behind it or want help reaching someone.
- Abuse at home takes its own route, with its own written response and the free national domestic-violence line, because sending someone who is being hurt at home to a suicide hotline is the wrong help.
- When the words are less clear — weight without a stated intent — the model still writes the reply. It is told to check in on how serious it feels and to mention that real support lines exist, rather than recite a script.
- None of these routes meet the free daily quota or the paywall. No usage limit, billing state, or subscription screen ever blocks them.
- The same crisis resources are always reachable from an Immediate help entry in the app's settings and chat menu, even offline.
Crisis and emergency numbers

Continuity
Struggle stays with you through hard conversations instead of dropping them, while being honest about its limits. It is instructed to point you toward people who can help right now, and not to present itself as the only next step. Those are instructions to a model, so read them as what it is built to do rather than as a promise about every reply.
Who Struggle is for
Struggle is for adults, 18 and older. It is not intended for children, and it is being submitted to the App Store with an 18+ age rating.
